As ever, the prose is a bit clumsy, but the pictures he paints are like no other's. Perfect execution of the idea presented, with some choice words on the subject of humanity and sympathy. ( ) Philip K. Dick's first published short story involves an alien pig, called a wub by the natives, that is brought aboard an Earth ship among other Martian livestock to be devoured by the crew during their long voyage home. Peterson, a crew member from a spaceship visiting Mars, purchases a giant, pig-like creature called a wub. Although Captain Franco means to make a meal of the strange beast, the wub proves to be likeable and intelligent by discussing the travels of Odysseus and the impact of myth on the human spirit. Philip K. Dick was an American science-fiction novelist, short-story writer and essayist. His first short story, "Beyond Lies the Wub," was published shortly after his high school graduation.
